Character Name: Totooria Helmold
Canon: Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland
Canon Point: The end of year 4.
Background/History: Wikia link!
Personality:
Totori grows up over the game. That is the key point to keep in mind when you see her. Originally, Totori was a very timid, introverted girl who had little confidence and could barely talk to new people without feeling awkward. In fact even those she knew well she would sometimes become a awkward turtle around. Yet due to her experiences over the years, Totori grows from a timid introverted girl, to... ... well, a slightly timid and more outgoing one! It's a change that takes a year or two, really. It doesn't just suddenly happen, she changes over time. At the start of the game she is only 13, while at the end she's 19. The time I'm taking her from, she's been 17 for a while. So yes, she matures (mentally) quite a bit. Sadly she doesn't grow much.
Despite maturing though... a good deal of her personality remains the same even as she grows. While Totori is often quite normal in some areas, shrieking at scary things, yelling when she's angry... Many points of her stand above the rest. Totori can be crazy stubborn once she decides to do something. Be it simply going to the city to become an adventurer, or to go face a ultimate evil being who terrorized a village and has never once been defeated... She'll face both of these situations with a thick enough skull that not even a bomb exploding in her face would make her change her mind.
Stubborn as she may be... Totori is also quite quick to backpedal if she hurts someones feelings. This happens with alarming frequency, as the girl just has a very bad habit of putting her foot in her mouth, or blurting out the entirely wrong thing at the exact moment it would have maximum impact on someone. There has been slight improvement on this, yet all the same it's not exactly the kind of thing she can just phase out. In all likelihood, she got that trait from her mother.
Now even with Totori growing from a little girl to a near adult over the course of the game... Totori is still quite childish. Not just in her petite appearance, either. When a girl who follows her home starts living with her, she pouts and gets jealous of how she gets her sister and teachers attention... Going so far as to even yell at her a little, even if she immediately feels awful about it and runs away from the scene before being comforted shortly after.
There are a few more Very Important things to keep in mind when it comes to Totori as well. She loves cute things. As in she'll become almost an entirely different person if something super cute appears before her. Though in some instances what she considers cute is a tad worrying... Such as the time she fawned over a human sized venus fly trap. Even going so far to say it was adorable after she gave it a bug to eat.
Finally, while largely timid and quiet, even after growing up... When Totori wants to get things done, she gets them done! Her time as an adventurer, along with all the effort she put into her alchemy... both of these practices have made her not only brave in the face of most dangers (even if she'll be a little scared at first) it has just made her have a good deal of confidence in her established skills. While she wouldn't be one to brag about herself like she's the best ever, she does have enough confidence to approach situations she has skills that can help in with her head held high. ... though she might falter just as easily. It depends. Either way, regardless of her confidence level, Totori is always eager and excited to go out on adventures. Since for her... getting to go out and adventure was the biggest first step in growing up.
Abilities/Powers: Totori is an alchemist! This mean she can make a lot of strange and unusual things. While this requires a cauldron to mix everything in, it is a skill she could make use of if she can... well, get a cauldron? Or a very close equivalent. That would obviously take some effort, but she's pretty dang good at it. And she can make stuff out of almost anything. Given enough time in game, she might try to use some local Rapture materials to create things, or even open up a small shop.
And as an alchemist, she has a fancy alchemist staff, and more importantly, a rather large Basket/Bag of Holding that can in-game hold up to 60 things in it, which she has with her. So she has a nice sizable stash of stuff with her from home. It is mostly things like bombs of varying types, or elixirs and pills that heal wounds, along with a handful of ingredients. It also has a few select "Adventurer items" which would help her get around faster... But those wouldn't really work all that well. I'll do my best to manage her usage of these things, since in-game they are limited use.
However, Totori is also an adventurer. While not the toughest one out there as she still needs people to shield her from damage, she can dish out a pretty mean blow with her alchemist staff. So despite her petite appearance, she packs a mean wallop if she swings her staff at someone. It's enough to easily knock out basic monsters in one swing, so if she were attacked, she could probably brain someone with it to defend herself.
Also, she's capable of doing some quick and dirty on-the-spot "Item Duplication" which involves her making a exact replica of an item, only at lower effectiveness. This only applies to things she knows how to make in the first place, yet it's still worth noting as it's essentially her most powerful 'skill' outside of alchemy.
Items/Weapons:
- Her alchemist staff!
- A Runestone (an accessory)
- Her ingredient basket, which is essentially a 'inventory' in itself of a variety of alchemical items and materials to use in alchemy. As she was whisked away without warning, it wouldn't have anything too crazy in it, yet it would have things like bombs (her main means of defending herself) and healing items and various tools that are useful for traveling.
Sample Entry:
*A rather oddly angled video feed comes onto the network, as a young looking girl appears upside down on it. There is some obvious panic in her expression as she realizes she's not holding it properly, letting out a tiny gasp before she adjusts it so she's right-side-up. Still a tad off center though.*
Um... Hello everyone!
Sample Entry Two: (This is a sample I used for the last game I played her at, I hope it's okay to reuse it?)
Totori wouldn't cry.
There was a time where if she had been thrust into this strange place as suddenly as she had been Rapture, without anyone she knows with her... Her first reaction would be to let out a wail of grief and more than a little horror. Actually, it would more be out of loneliness than anything else.
However, that was a good 4 years ago. After everything she had experienced, everyone she met, every single thing that happened between the time she began her earnest effort to be an adventurer... Breaking down into tears would be poor form! There might be braver and tougher adventurers out there, yet Totori was definitely going to be one of those brave ones today. Even if she had arrived by falling flat on her face.
So here she was, at the Welcome Center to a strange and unusual city... A city that despite her brief time here thus far, she had figured out was underwater. Which while amazed her when she first saw it, also had her... quite worried. How does such a place even exist?! It looks like it's powered by some kind of strange alchemic devices... or machines? Machines was likely the answer, yet Totori didn't know nearly enough about those to figure a single bit of this out. Which simply left her staring in wonder at the vast city before her... The view outside from the glass was amazing. It would have taken her breath away if she wasn't already a bit out of it due to the shock of everything.
"This is a lot to take in..."
Totori found herself muttering as she watched some fish swim by the glass... Lights were flicking on and off around the city as she took it all in. She looked like a tourist who was on her first trip from the country to see the big city full of neon lights. Which wasn't entirely inaccurate, considering neon lights don't even exist where she comes from. Still, all this... It was new... Unusual... ... exciting. Even if she felt a little scared... Even if she felt alone... There were other people here in the same situation as her. That meant she wasn't really alone.
That was when Totori realized she had been smiling since she got her first look at the city proper.
"It... It's going to be like a brand new adventure...!"
If the alchemist had worries, she decided to push them aside for now. For now... it was time to explore this strange and beautiful place called Rapture.
